Comments concern military actions at Boston, Sullivan's Island, New York City, Ticonderoga, Saratoga, and the Highlands. Includes his evaluations of actions by Sir William Howe, Peter Parker, Lord Cornwallis, General Burgoyne, Lord Percy, Generals Leslie, Grant, and Carleton, as well as his own. Vol. 3 (loose items in box): loose leaves, including Clinton's receipt for the History signed by Stedman; a note regarding the relief of Jamaica; as order to General Leslie to embark 2,000 men; a two-page note on Sullivan's Island; and copies of notes recorded on pp. 197, 205, and 210 respectively; also a printed copy of Observations on Mr. Stedman's History of the American War by Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Clinton, K.B. From the collection of A.S.W. Rosenbach, who described this "the most interesting and valuable copy of this book in existence."--See his note on front pastedown, v. 1.
