Johnston, Henry Phelps. The record of Connecticut men in the military and naval service during the War of the Revolution, 1775-1783. Baltimore, MD: Clearfield, 1997. REF 973.3446 C623 2003
Like the source above, the index is the best place to start. The information available generally includes unit, rank, date of enlistment, length of service, and miscellaneous notes.
Connecticut Historical Society. Rolls and lists of Connecticut men in the Revolution, 1775-1783. Bowie, MD: Heritage Books, 1995. REF 973.3446 R749, 1995
This book is organized into sections based on unit type (e.g. line, militia), and chronologically within a section (e.g. line regiments of 1777). Thus, the index of names is the most productive place to start, as it will allow the reader to locate a name quickly.
This work was published as a supplement to the Johnston volume above. The library also has the original 1901 edition of this work in the periodical section- call no. 974.6 C752h v.8
Stacks
Boyle, Joseph Lee. Fire cake and water: the Connecticut infantry at the Valley Forge encampment. Baltimore, MD: Clearfield, 1999. 973.3446 F523 1999
The vast majority of the book is devoted to an alphabetical list of Connecticut soldiers present at Valley Forge, including their rank, period of service, unit, and any notes. A well-organized source and quite worthwhile.
Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution. Connecticut revolutionary pensioners. Baltimore, MD: Genealogical Pub. Co. 1982. 973.3446 C743 1982
An index to pension documents rather than a source of detailed information, this book is probably best used as additional confirmation rather than as a starting place.
Connecticut Society of the Cincinnati. Papers of the Connecticut State Society of the Cincinnati, 1783-1807. Hartford, Conn: Connecticut Historical Society, 1916. 369.13146 C752pap 1916 [[Oversized shelves.]]
A collection of reprinted manuscripts, this source is not easy to read or work with and may be of use only for curiosity purposes.
Connecticut Society of the Cincinnati. Records of the Connecticut State Society of the Cincinnati, 1783-1804. Hartford, Conn: Connecticut Historical Society, 1916. 369.13146 C752re 1916
Much like the above, this source is a collection of manuscript facsimiles. It is distinguished in particular by a early roster of original Society members from Connecticut.
Hayes, John T. A substantial yeomanry: the Connecticut Light Horse, 1776-1783. Fort Lauderdale, FL: Saddlebag Press, c1994. 973.3446 H452, 1994
A publication on a very specific group of units, this source is primarily a history, but includes a possibly-useful brief roster of officers of the various light horse regiments.
Jacobus, Donald Lines. Revolutionary war records of Fairfield, Connecticut. Baltimore, MD: Genealogical Pub. Co, 2004. 973.3446 R449 2004
Specific to Fairfield County, this source contains detailed alphabetical records of individuals, along with other information and a strong index. Indispensable when an ancestor is known to be from Fairfield.
Lee, W. W. A catalogue of Barkhamsted men who served in the various wars, 1775 to 1865. Meriden, Conn.: Republican Publishing Co. 1897. 974.61 L482 1897
Very specific to Barkhamstead, the first part of this source contains brief biographical sketches of Revolutionary War soldiers and sailors from the town.
Middlebrook, Louis F. History of Maritime Connecticut during the American Revolution, 1775-1783. 2 vols. Salem, MA: The Essex Institute, 1925.
974.603 M627 1925 [[See also Navy category.]]
Volume I is largely concerned with the state navy, and Volume II with privateers. Due to the source’s organization, the index is the best place to start, and the information about an individual may be somewhat limited.
Wicks, Edith M; Olson, Virginia H. Stamford's soldiers: genealogical biographies of Revolutionary War patriots from Stamford, Connecticut. Stamford, Conn.: Stamford Genealogical Society, 1976. 973.34469 W637 1976
Another book specific to a county, it comprises alphabetically-organized records of individuals, with substantial detail in most cases.
